Random Ramble: July 26, 2014

Set aside the Comic-Con hype, let's talk about The Expendable movies. I don't care about the RT ratings, the first two movies are nostalgic throwback of 80's action movies with excessive violence, crazy one-liners and over-the-top goodness.
The first Expendables film was rated-R for manliness. Think about it: guys like Stallone, Statham, Schwartzenegger, Jet Li, Lundgren and Austin together in one movie? That's batshit insane but hey, we like it, perhaps thanks to a successful box office revenue. The second film could have been PG-13 if it wasn't for that petition to persuade Sly to push back the R rating. I know: Chuck Norris suggested that rating due to his reputation of being badass. Despite even poor rating than the previous one, the box office hit was bigger than the first.
Now, Sly's not bluffing anymore regarding the PG-13 rating and the toning down of violence and squibs for CGI effects and the addition of new casts for younger audiences. I'm glad Wesley Snipes is back and so is Mel Gibson. If only Kellan Lutz, Ice T, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson were added to the mix, it could have been better, right? As much as I care about the production and the story, Expendables 3's controversies are just icing and the worst has yet to come.
Never mind Asylum will release a female version of Expendables called "Mercenaries" a day before August 15, there's one controvery we'll tackle on. This week, The Expendables 3 was leaked online with almost a million views and thousands of copies distributed on the Internet before they're taken down. Unlike the previous pirated movies that were shot on camera, this was shot on DVD screener which was the first time since The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey to be released on a higher quality. Sounds a big deal, right? Some say it was an unfinished movie but others say it's a real deal like what the hell? It seems that Sly and the company Millennium Films would hurt their reputation now that they have seen everything before it hits on theaters.
